Your Sore Feet
Could be the Cause of Wrong Sizing
If your feet hurt constantly, check the
shoes that you have been wearing.
Of course, one reason your feet may hurt is
that you are not wearing the correct size shoes.
This is especially true if you are wearing high
heel shoes. Shoes that do not fit properly may
cause heel pain, bunions, deformed toes and even
nerve damage. You, like many other women, may
have paid a lot of money for your shoes--the
shoes that are causing your feet to hurt.
If your feet hurt often, it could be indicative
of your overall health. For example, if your
ankles are continually swollen, it could mean,
among other things, congestive heart failure. A
sign of diabetes includes feet that are
insensitive to pain and temperature. A symptom
of circulatory disease includes feet that are
cold. Clubbed toenails may be the result of
chronic respiratory disease.
If you are wearing incorrectly fitted shoes, it
can also cause knee problems. Women should wear
shoes that contain a heel which is not higher
than two and a quarter inches; and at that,
those shoes should not be worn for more than
four hours a day. If you wear heels on a regular
basis for a long period of time it could shorten
the Achilles tendon and inhibit the range of
motion of your feet. Heel pain is a symptom of
the shortening of the Achilles tendon, and most
people that suffer from heel pain are women.
The first step to prevent foot pain is to buy
shoes that fit properly. Don't buy shoes just
because the tag indicates that they are your
size; try them on first. Have your foot
measured, if you haven't done so for five years
or more. Feet may very well change in size and
shape over the years. Also measure both feet,
not just one foot.
If your feet are different sizes, you will need
to buy shoes that are the size of your largest
foot. In order for shoes to fit correctly, there
should be 3/8" to 1/2" of space between the end
of your longest toes and the tips of your shoe
while you are standing.
If the shoes are too tight when you try them on,
do not expect them to stretch; you will probably
end up with foot pain.
Buy shoes with rounded toes, rather than
pointed, so that your toes have some wiggle
room. Pointed toe shoes can leave you with
extreme foot pain as your shoes are crowded in
them, and may even overlap, leaving virtually no
wiggle room. Wearing pointed toe shoes on a
regular basis could even result in foot problems
later in life.
There are home exercise programs you can do to
help prevent and relieve foot pain. These
exercises involves stretching of the Achilles
tendon and plantar fascia. The pain in your feet
can be reduced significantly by performing this
exercises regularly.
