Shopping Tips Buying Wide Width High Heels

It is very hard on your feet to go from spending most of your time in sneakers to transition into other styles of shoes, especially high heels.

Sneakers and heels are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to style and comfort of shoes. Even the way in which women wear sneakers is different from the manner in which they wear heels. Women distribute their body weight in different ways when wearing different types of shoes. So if a woman is accustomed to wearing sneakers, she will need to switch the manner in which she stands and walks while wearing high heels.

As you would guess, sneakers are better for your feet than high heels, but, most of us cannot always wear sneakers. For example, if you are currently a college student or a stay-at-home mom and sneakers have been your footwear of choice, and you are suddenly thrust into the business world, you must change your footwear. There are some steps you can take to transition from sneakers to other types of shoes such as high heels.

Basically all forms of high heels are hard on your feet. Do not choose heels with pointed toes, as cramming your toes into heels or any types of shoes will be very painful, especially when you have been wearing sneakers most of the time. In fact, many women who have worn pointed toes for years have ended up with foot deformities. Therefore, choose a rounded or square toe or even an open toe shoe. The shoes will fit better and will, of course, be more comfortable than a pointed toe. If you need to wear heels, begin with heels that are under 2.5 inches, and choose a heel that is chunky or a wedge heel. Stilettos can be difficult for you to walk in, not to mention very uncomfortable. Once you get used to wearing lower heels you can work up to high heels to wear on special occasions.

There are so many styles of shoes with different heels to choose from these days. You can have a sexy looking shoe, without having to wear stilettos.

Shoe widths are another important factor in choosing the proper footwear. Some styles of dress shoes are narrower than athletic shoes that are sized with the same width. For example both may be labeled with a width of narrow, but the heels may feel a lot narrower than the sneakers because dress shoes tend to be narrower than sneakers or other types of athletic shoes. Your shoe size and width may vary depending on the types of shoes that are worn.

When you are trying to find a dress shoe, try it on in your bare feet (or the hose you will wear with the shoes), hold the bottom of the left shoe against your right foot, then vice-versa, and you should see the outline of the shoe around your whole foot. If you are not able to see the outline, it may be the wrong size or not wide enough, so either try a different style or a different width or size.

You will not always be able to find a shoe that is the precise length and width that you need. Sometimes you will need to go up a half size or even a full size to obtain the proper width, but then you may end up with a shoe that is too long. If this is the case, you may choose a slingback shoe with which you can adjust the strap to keep your heel in place. With some types of shoes, you may use heel pads in order to keep your foot from sliding.

It is important to try on shoes late in the day when your feet will be the most swollen. Stand up and walk around when trying on shoes, so that you can tell if the shoes are uncomfortable when walking. Shoes usually feel fine when you first put them on, but don't think that you will be able to break them in if they do not feel fine. This is especially true with heels. Make sure that they fit properly and are comfortable before you leave the store.
